Dubai: RTA rolls out safety drive for Al Awir motorcycle rentals
Field visits highlight licensing, insurance and safety breaches
DUBAI – Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), in coordination with relevant government entities, has conducted a series of field inspections and awareness campaigns targeting recreational motorcycle rental establishments in Al Awir.
The initiative forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen regulatory compliance and enhance public safety. Officials said the move comes as off-road motorcycle activities continue to grow among residents and tourists in desert camp areas.
The campaign covered 58 establishments operating across 48 camps, with authorities carrying out 41 site visits. Inspectors identified multiple breaches, resulting in 31 violations issued under Executive Council Resolution No. (18) of 2017, which governs the licensing and regulation of recreational motorcycles in Dubai.
Key violations
Among the most common offences recorded were failures by rental offices to provide valid insurance coverage for motorcycles and riders, as well as lapses in renewing existing policies. Authorities also flagged the use of motorcycles that did not meet approved safety, security and environmental standards.
Additional violations included operating unlicensed motorcycles, using vehicles with expired licences, and the absence of number plates. Inspectors also noted instances where riders failed to wear designated protective gear while using recreational motorcycles.
Safety push
Saeed Al Ramsi, Director of Licensing Activities Monitoring at RTA, said the inspections are part of periodic campaigns designed to verify compliance and raise awareness among operators. He noted that maintaining safety and security remains a priority, particularly in locations witnessing increased recreational activity.
The campaign also involved distributing awareness materials in Arabic and English, accessible via QR codes. These resources outline regulatory requirements and detail the violations associated with non-compliance. Authorities confirmed that such initiatives will continue as part of broader efforts to enforce legislation and uphold safety standards across the sector.
